73.3 :: ‘kadian’ by jordan castro

kadian by jordan castro // hip hip hooray press

73.3

this is tight.

very short.

chap is short. poems are short. really, too short. jordan has secured all kinds of book deals. he is writing songs. maybe he is tapped out. wants to save some creativity.

the titles are just as important as the poem ‘itself.’

feels ’really great’ to be in that rhythm of title / poem.

feel that these poems are more personal. previous works seemed more circumstantial. maybe jordan is turning more reflective about his life rather than judging the lives of others so much.

is jordan insecure?

is jordan trying to find his ‘place in this world’?

is kadian & kadian his literal & figurative ‘cry for help’?

enjoyed the ‘caps effect’ and ‘exclamation effect’ in THERE ARE CERTAIN GIRLS I WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH WHO I’D LIKE TO HAVE SEX WITH BUT WILL NEVER HAVE SEX WITH AND THOUGH THIS IS A DEVASTATING TRUTH I MUST ACCEPT IT AND MOVE ON.

this was a surprising turn. i think jordan could use this some more. conveys desperation very well with the ‘caps effect’ and ‘exclamation effect.’

will continue to read jordan castro.
